Destination Imagination Regional Tournament: Celebrating imagination

By April Guilmet

A total of 18 teams from Andover competed in the regional tournament for Destination Imagination on Sunday, March 25.

With each team made up of four to seven children, students from Andover High, Andover School of Montessori, Doherty, West and Wood Hill middle schools, Bancroft Elementary School, High Plain, Sanborn, South, and West elementary schools, and St. Augustine School competed in the regional tournament for Destination Imagination.

Last December, each team picked one of five challenges to work on for the tournament, with each challenge emphasizing teamwork, creative problem-solving, artistic talents and fun.

Solutions to the challenges included mechanical machines; original songs and dances; costumes made from paint color chips; duct tape and other materials; and lots of improvisation.

Seven teams will advance to the state finals on March 31 in Worcester. If they win, they will head off to the global tournament in Tennessee next month.
