Mary M. Shea


Mary M. (McDermott) Shea, 88, of Andover, died Sunday, March 4, at the Hannah Duston Nursing Home in Haverhill.

She was the widow of the late William Shea, and the daughter of the late Helen and George McDermott.

Mrs. Shea graduated from the local schools and business school in Michigan.

She and her twin, the late Marge Zajicek, went into nurse training and later joined the Naval Hospital Corps.

Mrs. Shea was commended many times for the outstanding care she gave to battle casualties and homecoming POWs during World War II.

Mrs. Shea later became employed at the General Electric in Lynn in the drafting and engineering departments.

Family members include her brother, John J. McDermott and his wife Stacia of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Alice McDermott of Groveland, and Florence Linnahan of Methuen; brother-in-law, Leo Zajicek of Andover; two nephews; three great-nieces; a great-great-niece; and many other family and friends.

She was predeceased by her sister, Margie Zajicek, and her brothers, Frank and George McDermott.

Calling hours were scheduled for yesterday, Wednesday, March 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home in Lawrence.

A funeral Mass will be said today, Thursday, March 8, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Augustine Church in Andover.

Entombment will follow in the Immaculate Conception Chapel Mausoleum in Lawrence.
