Dr. James J. Conroy

Dr. James J. Conroy, 77, of Andover, died Thursday, Feb. 22.

Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Dr. James Conroy and Mary Christine (Ryan) Conroy.

He shared 50 years of marriage with Sylvia (Sirica) Conroy.

A graduate of Boston University and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School, Jim was a veteran of the Korean War and served as a Naval dentist.

Dr. Conroy was a dentist in Andover for nearly 40 years and retired in 1993. He was a member of the American Dental Association for 50 years.

His survivors include his wife, Sylvia and his children, Mrs. L. William (Kathleen) Law of Bradford, Mrs. Wilbur T. (Carolyn) Hooven IV of Topsfield, Mr. Robert M. Conroy of Pelham, N.H., and Mrs. Thomas W. (Amy) Batt of Andover; grandchildren, Jaimee, Michael and Stephanie Law, Benjamin, Domenic and Wesley Hooven, and Gina, Dylan and Lydia Conroy; his sister, Mrs. Joan F. Doherty of Taunton; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert M. Conroy and William R. Conroy.

Dr. Conroy dedicated his life to helping others, and continues to do so even in his death. He has donated his body to Boston University Medical School as an anatomical donor to be used for medical research.

ARRANGEMENTS: A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice in Lawrence, or to Kaplan Hospice House in Danvers. The family strongly urges others to consider anatomical donations to medical schools so that research to eradicate cancer, and other diseases, can be conducted.
