Harriet Eastman


Harriet (Ridings) Eastman, 84, of Andover, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Lawrence General Hospital.

She was born in Lawrence on March 5, 1922, and raised in Methuen.

She was a graduate of Edward Searles High School, class of 1939, where she played basketball.

Mrs. Eastman was a former Cub Scout den mother and a member of the LANAM Club.

In 68 years, she was said to have never missed a Friday lunch out with her best friend, Vida Marjerison.

She was a former member of Shawsheen School PTA, a 60-year member of Shawsheen Village Women's Cub and a Charter member of Beta Sigma Phi.

Mrs. Eastman enjoyed dancing and summering at York Beach, Maine and was an avid sports fan with a particular love for the Boston Red Sox.

She loved making chocolate chip cookies for generations of neighborhood children, her family said. She was always very civic-minded, spending endless hours volunteering for a number of charitable organizations including fund raising for both the American Heart Association and Cancer Society.

Family members include son, W. Dean Eastman of Andover; friend of 68 years, Vida Marjerison; a niece; and a nephew.

She was predeceased by her husband, Weston D. Eastman.

Burial was in Spring Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were by Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home.
