Harriet Eastman


Harriet (Ridings) Eastman, 84, of Andover, died Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Lawrence General Hospital.

She was born in Lawrence on March 5, 1922 and raised in Methuen.

She was a graduate of Edward Searles High School, Class of 1939, where she played basketball.

Mrs. Eastman was a former Cub Scout Den Mother and a member of the LANAM Cub.

In 68 years, she never missed a Friday lunch out with her best friend, Vida Marjerison.

She was a former member of Shawsheen School PTA, a 60-year member of Shawsheen Village Women's Cub and a Charter member of Beta Sigma Phi.

Mrs. Eastman loved to dance, enjoyed summering at York Beach, Maine and was an avid sports fan with a particular love for the Boston Red Sox.

She loved making chocolate chip cookies for generations of neighborhood children. She was always very civic-minded, spending endless hours volunteering for a number of charitable organizations including fund raising for both the American Heart Association and Cancer Society.

She was the widow of Weston D. Eastman and survivors include son, W. Dean Eastman of Andover; and a niece and a nephew.

Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service Saturday, Feb. 3, at 10 a.m. at Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 N. Main St., Andover. Calling hour are Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.
