Eleanor M. Otis


Eleanor M. (McCarthy) Otis, 72, of North Andover died Wednesday, Jan. 17, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born in Lawrence, the daughter of the late George and Bertha (Gillen) McCarthy.

She was educated in the Andover school system and earned a master's degree in special education from Lesley College.

Mrs. Otis was a special education teacher at the Gertrude Bailey International School in Lowell for the past 18 years, until her recent retirement.

She enjoyed hosting family celebrations and spending time with friends and relatives.

Mrs. Otis was also a parishioner and volunteer at St. Michael's Church.

Family members include her sons, George of Salt Lake City, Charles and his wife Jane also of Salt Lake City, Peter and his wife Janice of North Andover, John of North Andover, and James of Lowell; daughter, Julie and her husband John Ellis of Corinth, Maine; and six grandchildren; a brother, Cornelius McCarthy and his wife, Alice of Boxford; two nieces; a nephew; several cousins; and many dear friends.

Mrs. Otis was predeceased by her husband, H. Clark Otis

Private funeral services were conducted by Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home in North Andover.
