Milton Issenberg


Milton Issenberg, 86, of Andover, died at home on Wednesday evening, Jan. 17.

Born in Lawrence, he graduated from Lawrence High School in 1938 and Boston University in 1943.

After graduation, he joined the Army Air Corps in December 1943.

On June 23, 1944, the B-24 carrying Mr. Issenberg, a second lieutenant bombardier, was shot down over a German airfield in Laon, France.

On April 29, 1945, he was liberated from German Camp Stalag Luft 3.

Upon returning to civilian life, Mr. Issenberg joined his family business, Lincoln Fruit and Syrup Co. In 1954 the company changed its name to Lincoln Foods Inc. and moved to Newbury Street, Lawrence.

In 1968 the company was purchased by S.S. Pierce and Mr. Issenberg became president of the new company.

In 1976, he left S.S. Pierce and began Lincoln Food Group Inc., a food brokerage company, which is now operated by his sons.

Mr. Issenberg was active and philanthropic in many Jewish organizations. In 2000, RedMil Press published Mr. Issenberg's autobiography, called "A Twentieth Century Life." He details his background, family origins and many of events that he recorded during his life.

Family members include his children, Kent and Arlene Issenberg, Richard and Peggy Issenberg, Peter and Simmie Issenberg; his six grandchildren; and his brother, Harold Issenberg.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth (Shermand), who died in 1995; and two brothers, Joseph and Phillip Issenberg.

Funeral arrangements were by Goldman-Fisher Funeral Chapel of Malden.
