David F. Moorhead


David F. Moorhead, 74, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, following a long illness.

A resident of Andover for 35 years, Mr. Moorhead was originally from Pennsylvania.

Mr. Moorhead graduated from Pennsylvania State University and throughout his life he remained a loyal supporter of Penn State's Nittany Lions football team and their coach Joe Paterno.

After graduation he worked many years as an engineer for the Ralston Purina Company in both Richmond, Va., and Richmond, Ind.

During this time, he received a master's degree in business administration from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio.

Mr. Moorhead's interests included Civil War history, national history and politics, current events, and reading.

He and his family moved to Andover when he went to work for the H.K. Webster Blue Seal Feeds Co.

After working for Blue Seal for 25 years, he retired and started his own consulting firm, Moorhead Engineering.

In his spare time, Mr. Moorhead enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains, as well as fishing and boating on Lake Sebago in Maine.

He also loved swimming and swam six days a week for at least a mile for most of his adult life.

Mr. Moorhead was a longtime member of South Church in Andover.

When he moved to Andover, Mr. Moorhead served on the Merrimack Valley YMCA board of managers, the Facilities Committee, and the annual Reach Out for Youth campaign. Also, for many years he chaired the Y's Men's Christmas Tree Sales to benefit their camping services.

Family members include his wife, Marna A. Moorhead; daughter Deborah Koppes and husband Bill; daughter Elizabeth Danyluk and husband Larry; son Robert F. Moorhead and wife Karen; stepson William Loehr and wife Jean; stepdaughter Kimberly Loehr; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister Margery Bowman; several cousins; and many dear friends.

Mr. Moorhead was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Donald Moorhead.

Funeral arrangements were by Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home.
