Evelyn M. Tiews


Evelyn M. Tiews died suddenly but peacefully Thursday, Dec. 28. She lived the last eight years of her life in Andover.

Ms. Tiews was born in Boston, Aug. 31, 1910.

She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Harvard University, Radcliffe College in 1932.

She also earned a master's degree in education from Harvard University in 1942 and a master of arts degree from Boston University in 1957.

She taught English at various Massachusetts high schools over many years, including Nantucket, Melrose and for 27 years at Brookline High School.

After her retirement from teaching, she volunteered for many years at the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown.

Members of her family include a brother, Robert J. Tiews of Wilmington, Del., and four nephews, including Glenn R. Street of Andover, as well as many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made payable to the St. Augustine School Guild, sent in care of Glenn Street, 7 Devonshire Place, Andover, 01810.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence St.
