Old Town Hall will again host an event that never seems to get old to those who love to sample food -- the now-annual Taste of Andover.
It's 1692, fear grips Andover... all over again
In May of 1692, Martha Allen Carrier became the first from Andover to be accused of witchcraft. Why was this 40-year-old mother of five singled out, when no one else was accused until mid-July? From all reports, Goody Carrier was an outspoken woman living in a period when women were expected to be quiet and demure. She was combative with town folk and threatened her neighbor, Benjamin Abbot. Mr. Abbot soon became ill and claimed Martha cast a spell on him. Soon others stepped forward to blame her for their afflictions and misfortunes.
Andover Cultural Council sets Oct. 23 meeting
The Andover Cultural Council (ACC) announced the award of a grant for $8,663 from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. This money will be regranted by the ACC to fund community cultural programs and the Performing Arts Student Series (PSS), a ticket subsidy program for students in grades K-12.
Rogers Center presents Ann Arbor Film Festival
The Rogers Center for the Arts at Merrimack College will showcase the new work of both young and established filmmakers next week when it shows the winners of the 38th annual Ann Arbor Film Festival.
