League of Women Voters plans Ballot Question Forum, voter-registration event

The League of Women Voters of Andover/North Andover is holding a Ballot Question Forum on Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall Library in Andover. The forum will be hosted by the State LWV President Nancy Carapezza, and the public is invited and encouraged to attend. Carapezza will describe all eight ballot questions, outline the pros and cons, and take questions from the audience. Groups listed in the Secretary of State's "red book" as opponents or proponents of the ballot questions have been invited to attend to contribute brief summaries of their positions. Refreshments will be served.

The forum will be broadcast live on Andover cable TV and rebroadcast on Andover and North Andover cable TV until the Nov. 7 general election. The forum will end at 8:30 p.m. in order not to conflict with the second presidential debate, which will be on TV at 9 p.m.

The League is also holding a voter-registration and information event at the North Andover Mall on Route 114 on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. LWV members will be in front of Market Basket and Fashion Bug to register citizens to vote and to provide specific information on polling places, voting machines, and sample ballots for Lawrence, Andover and North Andover. Information will also be available on the eight ballot questions. All materials will be available in English and Spanish, and bilingual students from the Greater Lawrence Technical School will be on hand to assist Spanish-speaking citizens. The town clerks from Andover and North Andover, Randall Hanson and Joyce Bradshaw, will also be on hand to assist with registration and answer questions.
