Long weekend of freedom

A Fourth of July that fell on a Tuesday provided many residents with a blissful four-day weekend.

The weather cooperated, too, allowing people to enjoy their usual Saturday and Sunday before taking in fireworks on Monday evening, July 3. Andover and several surrounding towns sent up their flares at about the same time, allowing those with the right vantage point to catch four different displays.

The annual Horribles Parade and other events in the Park, including a pancake breakfast, filled the morning of July 4. The breakfast was primarily served by current and former selectmen, as usual.

Just how many pancakes are made, however, is anyone's guess.

"There are 18 pancakes on a grill, there are four grills, and we cooked from 8 to 11:30 a.m.," says Selectman Lori Becker. "We can do the math."
