Articles 19-22: Senior articles approved

Voters approved Articles 19 to 22 in support of services for senior citizens.

At Town Meeting Tuesday, voters approved Article 19, which authorizes the town to create an account for tax relief for senior citizens or disabled residents.

The account would be managed by the Taxation Aid Committee, the members of which would create regulations and determine who is eligible.

Contribution to the fund would be voluntary.

Voters approved Article 20, the senior-citizen property-tax work-off program, and Article 21, $75,000 for the tax-voucher program which allows seniors to earn $500 in credit toward their property tax bill by working for the town.

Voters also approved Tuesday $25,000 for the EZ-Trans transportation program for elderly residents.

The program servers nearly 500 residents, and is in its sixth year, said Selectman Mary French.
